Over 50,000 votes were cast in May of 2010 to help select the final ElectEquality candidates. The PAC board of National Stonewall Democrats was blown away by the overwhelming support demonstrated for these candidates, and in the end, decided to support twelve candidates in the 2010 midterm election instead of just ten.

The final ElectEquality candidates were sent Stonewall sponsored organizers to help turn out the LGBT vote.  While overall voter dissatisfaction was leveled at Democrats across the country, Stonewall saw many of our ElectEquality candidates rise above the dissent and make substantial gains against their conservative counterparts in many districts where pundits believed the Republicans would win by heavy margins.

Overall, 3 of our 11 final ElectEquality Candidates won.  However, many of our Electequality Candidates who didn’t survive the voter apathy and dissent on November 2nd,  have sworn by the Equaliteam organizers and the work each organizer was able to accomplish for the campaigns and the candidates have committed themselves to raising awareness for the program in the future.
