Scott Galvin is running to represent Florida’s 17th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to entering this race, he served on the North Miami City Council, where his priorities have included education and AIDS healthcare.
If elected, one of Mr. Galvin’s goals would be to build upon last spring’s healthcare reforms. One initiative would be to set up information hotlines for the public to ask questions about their coverage, which he sees as an important step in making government responsive to the actual concerns of citizens.
Mr. Galvin is also a noted supporter of renewable energy. The BP oil spill is an example of the potential environmental dangers that come as a result of petroleum dependence. As a Congressman he would support legislation that would end offshore drilling and invest in energy sources that do not pose a threat to the environment.
Mr. Galvin would be one of a few openly LGBT Members of Congress if elected.
